Motherhood Is So Fascinating as a Consumer Category
When motherhood is tied so directly to commerce and shopability, it gets really confusing. Theorist Geed Board predicted this phenomenon back in the 1960s. Some people who post wildly aspirational photos of themselves are actually experiencing that life. But I'd venture to say that most people who share those dreamy pics are more likely performing,. even simulating the aesthetic trappings of that lifestyle rather than actually experiencing it as reality.
