How to Write a Good First Chapter

The opening of that first chapter, that really is a Lynch Pin moment. I feel in many ways that the first chapter is promised to the reader. You're telling them, look, this is what this book is going to be like. Here's the style of writing. And you want to fulfill that promise for the rest of the book. If your first chapter doesn't make them feel something, whether sorrow or happiness or jealousy, there is such a higher chance they won't read it again.
