What's the Empire Like in the Twenties?

The world into which the queen was born was in many ways so different from ours as to seem like something from ancient history. In 19 26 and the twenties, women didn't go to work. But that is this big social cultural shift happening around women,. with women cutting their hair, smoking, drinking. And of course, hundreds of thousands of people working in factories or down mines. Women not going to work, but working as housewives. So there's a sense, i think, that the empire is simultaneously big, a very important t o politicians sense briton's place in the world, but also fragile.
