A study shows that if you take caffeine regularly, you can still see the physical performance enhancing effects of caffeine. The magnitude of the what they call ergogenic effect was higher on the first day than in subsequent days when people were allowed to continue caffeine intake. There is an abundant literature showing that people perform best on mental tests if they are in the state that they were when they studied for that material.
