The Glass Frog's Translucency

The planet earth feature on glass frogs includes at least one species of glass frog that shows this amazing egg defense behavior. A paper published in 2020 by James B. Barnett et al called imperfect transparency and camouflage in glass frogs was really interesting it did some experiments to try to look at the translucent skin of a glass frog. The authors mentioned that there are multiple ways camouflage works it can work by say matching a background or mimicking specific features such as coloration patterns, patterned surfaces and disrupting edges. It also raises an interesting question what if you're an animal that lives in a habitat where you can't always predict in advance what kind of background you will be part of.
