The Corinthian War and Sparta

Argos and Athens, Sparta's traditional enemies, are run as democracies. Corinth and Thebes, on the other hand, are run by smaller elite groups composed of aristocratic warrior nobles or cautious wealthy business people. And there was strife internally in these cities, because some not insignificant group of people wanted a regime change. One event vividly illustrated the direst warnings an oligarch might make about the dangers of excessive democracy.
