Charles and the Valois in Paris

The Valois cannot get their story straight about what happened. Charles is telling contradictory tales to the Protestants, he says it was a popular uprising organized by the Gees. Some Catholics like Philip II in Spain and the Pope in Rome see it initially as, oh great, France has finally started a religious war. But they realized pretty quickly that no, it wasn't a religious war, it was politically motivated.
