Omega-3 Fatty Acids Reduce Risk of Atrial Fibrillation

Last year, a meta-analysis of eight randomized controlled trials that encompassed over 80,000 participants showed a significant association between omega-3 supplementation and the risk of atrial fibrillation. In people without existing cardiovascular disease or significant risk factors for cardiovascular disease, fish oil doesn't appear to do much and may increase the risk of  atrial fibrilliation. Vexepo or one of the other ethylester forms that are out there rather than just over-the-counter fish oil seems to be like the most robust data that we have as far as reducing risk.
