Asteroid Defense - Is There a Risk of a Deep Impact?

The amount of very small meteorites to come crashing into earth is staggering. We've often conceived of mitigating that risk through senting up a nuclear weapon, blowing it up. The planetary defense world has the eye and believes if we can simply re direct it, get it off its current orbit, that might be morviable stratum. By the way, the anticipated impact is in september 20 22.
