How to Teach Your Dog to Ignore Wildlife
Eve: My one and a half year old mini American shepherd has learned that chasing deer is the best thing ever. She can recall if dogs, people, birds and occasionally rabbits and squirrels. I realize that's not the same as ignoring them all together, which is the ultimate goal. Any tips on how to get there? It takes my dogs months and months and months of reinforcement history to ignore wildlife. If you don't have that behavior, your dog sees something, a dog, a bunny, a person, and their choice is always going to be to approach it without checking with you first.
