Theodoric the Amal - A History of the Goths

Theodoric the Amal was born around 454, the son of Theodomir, an ostrogothic chieftain. He succeeded his father as leader of his people in 471 and moved them from Pannonia to Lower Moesia. In 475 he seized the city of Durekium on the Adriatic coast. A Byzantine force was dispatched and temporarily pinned the Goths down but the revolt of Marcion occurred soon after which naturally took the Emperor's attentions.
