Toussaint Du Vatour's Declaration of the Rights of Man
Some have questioned Toussaint du Vatour's sincerity or at least the depth of his conviction as a proponent of freedom and equality. He never tired of repeating his commitment to Republican values, stating for example that, anyone who is a subject or vassal of kings is no more than a vile slave. But there was no contradiction between his idealistic promises and his rigorous demands in Saint-Domingue.
