In 1950 Alan Turing, who gave us the mathematical treatment of what a computation itself is, wrote a paper that's now just in the annals of history. In it he introduces the imitation game, which in its original form was you have a man and a woman and a judge who can't see them. And so imagine if it was just a person, human person and a computer system and the answers were supplied and teletype or what we would now say is text.
