Why You Shouldn't Be a Manager

As a manager, you can feel like you're doing great things as a manager in a way that's very different from doing great things technically. I think the potential for what I would consider to be bad behavior is a lot larger in management and the incentives for it are a lot larger. You don't want to be like conniving and scheming and then climbing the ladder by stepping on your team or pushing them to work long hours. If you're a developer, I think it's much easier to have the incentives push you to do bad things.
