The American flag on the moon was a symbol of claiming. I suppose that new flag in this speech that Harvey Milk was doing behind him, is it this reclaiming? And I think it was also about creating a powerful image. Flags are really powerful in terms of creating a memorable image. When you look at the pictures and when you look at how people describe it, you can really see how it is this moment. It becomes implicit in the viewer's memory.
