How to Decide if Software Is Too Immature

When you hinder your developers abilities to contribute to an open source project, you're just disincentivizing people to bother with it. Is there a strong incentive for continuation? That's usually a pretty good indicator of whether or not it's mature enough. Would survive defection of the current maintainers? Eh, I mean, how can, would anything, right?
