Is There Any Limitation Within a Jewish Community?
As modernity came along, jews had to form new communities that were not always on speaking terms with the more traditional Jewish communities. As they branched out, each new community insisted on saying, we're jews, and we're legitimate jews,. Even if others don't think that that's true. And that gave rise to judaism as an ethnicity. But even calling judaism an ethnicity undersells what jewishness means to people who might say, i'm just a begels and lock's jew you know, i'm a cultural jew.
