The Difference Between Novel and Creativity

We sometimes get confused over novice versus expert players, says coach. Expert players are unlikely to be creative in the sense that they're going to surprise us because it's repetitive. A novice player, creativity is something not novel for them. And we were watching games as to what novel and creativity is. I've got this memory of Riley McGee who scored with a scorpion kick - he'd already been practicing how to do it. It was learned ability applied uniquely in the moment. He just didn't suddenly develop the capacity to do a scorpion kicks. That movement capability was already in his toolkit. It was uniquely applied in the moment...
