Idioce Is Hard, but It's Also a Gift

When my kids are struggling, or when they complain about their idioity, i usually say something like, you're right. This is really hard. It's totally unfair. I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. What do you need? How can i port you? This validates their struggle and gives them the space to ask for help. A mental health diagnosis that has a myriad of negative symptoms and even more negative outcomes, is not a gift. And in my opinion, saying that it is a gift is not ok. Believing that atyect is a super power makes seeking treatment and support seem much less necessary.
