Christianity rose to prominence around the reign of Constantine in 300 CE. We start to see neurodivergences viewed as forms of mental illness. In this time period, the prevailing idea was that mental illness stemmed from some kind of moral deficiency for an individual. This is a big simplification, of course, of many centuries of medical and religious thought.
