The Importance of a Concept of Pain
If you think you're in pain, that's just what it is to be in pain. It doesn't make sense to say, well, I think I'm using language, but I'm not. You need a concept of the past and the future,. to imagine a point in which there is no suffering. People use these justifications to say that animals can't suffer. Dawkins has actually said, because you have no concept of the future, that makes the suffering even worse. That makes the cruelty even more morally horrific.
