World's agricultural soils have lost something like 487 gaga tons of c o two. Deep roots are an excellent way to put carbon further down in the ground, where it's more persistent and more recalcitrant. And those deep, longer, deeper roots also have added benefits, like making plants more drought tolerant for instance. We're also looking at things like how microbial communities interact with the roots, i'm to improve carbon storage.
