Javett's Story of Survival in Indonesia

Javett describes the process of registering officially as a refugee. It involves an awful lot of waiting for appointments often for longer than you have permission to be in that country. As he saw it he could lose the whole of his 20s to this limbo before he could build a life for himself in Indonesia with the career and the family that he dreamed of. People around him were talking about Australia, how it welcomed people like him but Javett can't swim. He weighed that against what he saw as the far greater likelihood of a wasted life if he stayed and decided to take the chance.
