The 19th Century, Paste Over Toast
The 19 thirties were a time of selective starvation for many Americans. People ate beans, so many pinto beans over the course of the decade. They relied on friends and strangers to help feed their families. One teacher gave away overalls after her brother died because she couldn't afford flowers at his funeral.
