In 1913, Hitler moved to Munich in southern Germany. This was made possible due to another inheritance from his father's estate. He volunteered for service in the German army and joined the 16th Bavarian Infantry Regiment. At the time of the Armistice, when the First World War officially ended, Hitler was in hospital with temporary blindness caused by a British gas attack. Keen to stay in the army, even after the war had ended, Hitler joined the Intelligence and Propaganda section.
