The Importance of Community Detection

Aaron Clossett: I think about community detection as something that we're doing to look at a mathematical object and it then gives an output. And the type of structure we're looking at is a specific type of what I would call a mesoscale structure. So there's different types of mesoscale structures that people study, and community structure is somehow made. The term modularity goes back to this is another old paper that we cite in that article actually. It was Herbert Simon talking about sort of modular structures where if you change something in one module, it doesn't mean that anything else outside that module has changed. But now, so that's more of a modular, right?
