In 1980, Dederick pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit murder. The IRS revoked its tax exempt status because it was found that they owed the IRS $17 million in back taxes. A series of court battles ensued, organized by Dederick's successors. In 1984, a California court ruled that synod had a policy of terror and violence. And in 1991, dissolved entirely.
