Is Itching Contagious?

Researchers at Washington University in Missouri have identified a pathway in the brains of mice that is activated when they see other rodents scratching themselves. The researchers found that specialized cells in the retina of the mice's eyes connect to a tiny region of the brain that also controls their body clock and this triggers itching. But if you delete a specific neuropeptide that carries signals from these retina cells to an area of the brain it doesn't trigger itching.
