The Last Mile Isn't the Real Work

The real work that determines if your paper will be good or not is all the research you do. So like planning out your content, planning out your budgets and getting team on board are just some of the last mile stuff. The real bulk of the work is your ongoing participation and investigation into the audience you aim to serve. And i'm so struck by how easy it is to understand that we don't do that, and how unwilling we seem to be even try. Take 20 minutes a week, schedule it. Start there, not heart. Make stuff that makes a difference.
