The Effects of Autism on the Development of the Brain

There's been quite a bit of research looking at the development of the structure of the brain using MRI. And what they found is that there's differences in the development of this white matter that can be seen by six to 12 months of age. We do think that autism affects the ability of the different brain regions to be coordinated in a way to allow us to engage in these very complex behaviors.
