Is Beauty Always Subversive?

I think it's really hard for beauty to exist outside of and separate from power, because so much of how beauty has operated in this especially has been as a mechanism of control. I don't know that we can live in a country where that is our legacy, and move toward a place where beauty can be value neutral, where it can be sort of revolutionary. How often those kinds of things are ar signifiers or aesthetic traditions, are, e, innovations that come from, or are conceived of by transwomen in particular.
