Is There a 90 % Chance of Cancer?
Theories either are correct or they're not. Not 90 % correct or 90% likely of being correct. That's not how it works, Strictly speaking. They're all false. But i don't want to focus on medicine here, because we're considering rationality more broadly. Medicine really is an edge case. In chapters six and seven, we'll explore how best to make consequential decisions when we know the probabilities. The starting point must be the abilities themselves. Given the evidence, how likely is it that some state of affairs is true? And pausing there. All right. Don't worry, i'm not going to read this entire chapter. Otherwise i will be pausing
