The Origins of Myelurgism
Oliver Cromwell flogged the crown jewels in 1658. He condemned them as monuments of superstition and idolatry. A collector unwittingly saves a 12th century treasure, which is still used to ignite monarchs with holy oil during coronation ceremony. It is the oldest item in today's crown jewels collection by some 500 years. The cost to Charles II is said to be the equivalent of three warships.
