The Soviet Union's Contribution to the International Brigades

Between 30,000 and 38,000 men from 53 different countries would make their way to Spain to serve in the international brigades. Many of them were motivated by their political outlook; others looking for a bit of adventure and excitement. Over the course of the war, theInternational brigades would be used as the republic's shock troops.
