The Life and Times of James Brown
James Brown spent three years in a Georgia detention centre. He was on parole at the time, but would be recalled to prison any time. After his release he joined Bobby Bird's A-vons gospel group. They soon changed their name to the flames and toured as Little Richard impersonators. In those early years they sounded more like him than anyone else. The song Please, Please, Please is based on something that little Richard scribbled on an napkin.
