Dwayne: Are there certain groups of runners that might be more likely to get shin splints? Dwayne: It is, you know, the new runner, but also those that are striding a lot and really we call this kind of over striding. He says it's like running with the emergency brake on or the parking brake because your heel smacking the ground sends these forces up through the shin. The center of mass when their foot hits the ground is way in front of the knee.
