Operetta has a golden age in the Silver Age, back to back. Jacques Offenbach rents his first theater in Paris in 1855. He's also the fellow who writes the unfinished but often performed Tales of Hoffman. The famous tune that we mostly know as the as the can can comes from one of his operitas.
