The Importance of Gut Health

The state of our gut is so freaking important for the state of our overall health. Antibiotics, birth control, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories and other medication can really wipe out that beneficial bacteria in our gut. Leaky gut occurs when the lining of the gut becomes permeable. Gluten containing foods contain gliadin, which has been shown to increase zonulin production. Zonulin actually stimulates those tight junctions in the intestines to open. This actually leads to leaky gut. So it's really important to give up the gluten to allow that gut lining to repair. The next step is re-inoculating the gut with more healthy flora.
