The Moral Point of You, Right?
The surest check of whether it's a rationalization or not is that when you present the logic of your justification, can somebody else enter into that logic of justification and see through it? Even Immanuel Kant, I mean, one of the most profound things he said in a sense is the reason and freedom have an intimate connection. Now, there was this hope that the same kind of sociality of reason could actually be applied to human affairs,. That's the big idea of the modern democratic public sphere; only those governments are legitimate that pass laws that are freely and accepted by everyone.
