The History of Niger
Niger has one sort of headline natural resource which everybody talks about, which are uranium reserves. The uranium provides something like 15 or 20% of the supply for the French nuclear power industry. Otherwise, it's not really a mining economy. Niger was part of what was called French West Africa but there were empires and sultanates dating right back to medieval era.
