Is Perception the Base of Knowledge?
I like the distinction between prescriptive and descriptive optimism. And definitely we should be prescriptively optimistic all the time. Even if you bet on the end of the world and you win, you aren't going to get your money back. I think that where I have potential differences are on some of the finer points of epistemology. In particular, I'm a little more sympathetic to what I would term induction. Although I don't know that Deutsch and I would actually mean exactly the same thing by that term. So generally a fan, I think more people should read his stuff.
