In a city like New York, the subways are the artery that carry metaphorical blood and oxygen through the body. Even before the pandemic, many were running with deficits made worse by passengers skipping turnstiles and refusing to pay bus fares because of minimal enforcement. There won't be enough federal money, even if the rest of the country doesn't cut off the spigot. With a GOP led House of Representatives now, don't expect bags of cash to get thrown at this anymore.
