The name is derived from the city of Moka Yaman, which was one of the centers of early coffee trade. In its originating term, Moka referred to beans imported from Al Moka, a Yemeni port city that once reigned as a supreme center for trade on commerce. Before coffee became our morning beverage of choice, it appeared in a variety of different kinds of preparations because we're talking about what they were just doing with the bean after it was roasted.
