The History of the Bast Children's Committee
There was still a few hundred in Britain when the Second World War broke out. The Bast children's committee started to think about what they would do. A lot of older boys took jobs in things like engineering and agriculture. Some signed up to serve in the RAF, the Navy or the Home Guard. There also remained a substantial number of younger children who were too young to work. Around 250 of the 4,000 never went back to Franco-Spain or at least settled permanently outside.
