What Happens to Expected Returns?

As companies rise up the ranks of the largest firms in the US, they are rewarded with really strong realized returns. But then going forward, once the expectation is excellence, their expected returns might actually go down because what happens is valuations go up. And so I just think that comes back to expectations and how those get embedded in evaluations.
