Computers in the Eighties and Nineties
I can't remember the first time i saw one. I would have seen pictures of giant machines in air conditioned rooms with flashing lights. That's what computers looked like in those days. And certainly i did a lot of computing when i was doing my ph d. It wasn't peboard on the desk, that kind of thing. It was punched cards. You'd write the code, you'd walk across the campus, get the cards punched, feed them into the machine. Machine would kick out the results, which would inevitably have a mistake in because something had been miss punch or you'd written the code incorrectly. So you'd correct it, change the appropriate cards, try again and go
