How to Test for Refractory Platelet Counts
Ideally, you would like to see a platelet count within 10 minutes to one hour post-transfusion. However, if you've got a platele count two hours later and you've got absolutely no bump, you do have to suspect your patient may be refractory. So for me, I think that whereas I like to see the plateel counts between 10 minutes and an hour, I don't absolutely demand it.
