The Crisis of Trust in the Roman Empire
Tiberius and Gaius Gratus were reviled by the ruling class of Rome. The next big politician who comes down the road just on either side of the 100 BC mark is a guy named Gaius Marius. He becomes rivals with another general and powerful leader named Cornelius Sola. They end up squabbling and fighting with each other. Once their fight was over, a new group of very powerful leaders emerged where they left off. A dude named Pompey, or Pompey, you'll hear it pronounced both ways, and a dude named Julius Caesar.
