Metropolis - The Story of the Film
The film was the most expensive production in the history of Uva Studios. It was designed by Palmer to be a film along with Murnau's Faust, made a year earlier. He did an immense amount of clashing of different styles inside it, didn't he? Metropolis is so layered in terms of what Lang and Von Hoag were attempting here. I think it was just too much cinema for people at once when it opened. But you all reviewed it, and he said that the story was fast, completely moronic as far as he was concerned. A completely banal story,. but he said the spectacle of it was just stunning, just overwhelming and truly innovative.
