The Illusion of Grokking in Deep Learning

Rocking is in many ways kind of an illusion as we'll get to later. Grokking is if you screw around high parameters enough you get it to Grok but it's very delicate and a little bit of an illusion. A great paper from Eric Macheau in Max Tecmuk's lab showing that smooth scaling laws happen because there are just many many phase transitions. If they follow a sudden distribution you get beautiful smooth powers.
